The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has approved the proposal to induct the former Minister S.N. Krishnaiah Setty into the Congress, according to an official press release here.
“AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka Digvijay Singh has cleared the proposal to admit Mr. Setty into the party,” the release said.
Quoting a letter sent to Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara, the release said that Mr. Singh had communicated to the KPCC chief that party president Sonia Gandhi had given her nod to admit Mr. Setty.
The KPCC had earlier recommended to the AICC to allow Mr. Setty induction into the party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Mr. Setty met Dr. Parameshwara in the presence of Kolar MP and Union Minister K.H. Muniyappa here on Sunday. He also visited Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Mr. Setty was a Minister in the B.S. Yeddyurappa Cabinet. The BJP denied ticket to Mr. Setty to contest the Assembly election last year in view of corruption cases against him. Enraged over this, Mr. Setty contested the election as an Independent. He, however, lost the election.
