Aghanashini river diversion project opposed

July 17, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - SIRSI:

Activists have opposed the proposed Aghanashini river diversion project saying that Uttara Kannada district has already been overburdened with many projects and it cannot sustain one more.

A committee of irrigation experts and officials has been set up to oppose the project, Bedti-Aghanashini Kolla Samrakshana Samiti secretary Anant Ashisar said in a press release issued here on Saturday.

Peoples’ representatives of the district should give information about the project to the residents and a meeting of farmers in the Aghanashini valley would be called in August, he said.
