Advocates demand Bhaskar Rao’s resignation

A group of advocates practising in various courts in the district staged a protest demonstration outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday demanding Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao’s resignation.

Raising slogans against Mr. Rao, the protesting advocates said that the image of the Karnataka Lokayukta organisation has been tarnished because of Mr. Rao.

“Unfortunately, Mr. Rao has been defending his son who had demanded a bribe from a Government officer,” they alleged.

The allegations against him (and his son) are serious. Hence, Mr. Rao should take moral responsibility and resign immediately to uphold the sanctity of the post. Or the Lokayukta should go on leave to allow a free and fair investigation into the incident, they demanded.

The protestors urged the authorities concerned to initiate measures against the accused persons in the alleged bribery scam, including filing a criminal case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, “to instil confidence among people about the institution.”

Basavaraju, Ravikumar, Nagaraj, Jayalakshmi, Puttaswamy, Mahesh and others were present.
