Advocates' Association Bangalore has decided to issue show-cause notice to six of its members, who allegedly attacked police personnel at the Magistrate Court complex on Tuesday, asking for an explanation from them why they should not be suspended from their membership for their conduct, which has affected the reputation of the association.
Resolution
In a press release, the association said that a resolution in this regard was adopted in the meeting of its Governing Council. The six advocate-members are: Manjunath, Venkatesh, Jagadish, Vishwanath, Harish and Ananth.
The association has resolved to recommend to the Karnataka State Bar Council to cancel the enrolment of those advocate-members, who indulge in activities against the interest of the association and instigate other members to act against the interest of the association. While requesting all its members not to indulge in any activities that will disturb peace in the association, the governing council resolved not to interfere in personal issues of the members, the release added.
One down, one escapes
Meanwhile, City Police Commissioner B.G. Jyothi Prakash Mirji said that while one of the advocates, Manjunath, was arrested late on Tuesday night from his residence in Yelahanka, another advocate, Vishwanath, had fled when the police arrived at his residence in Vijayanagar. “On seeing the police, he set his guard dog on the policemen and escaped by climbing the compound wall of his house,” he said.
Mr. Mirji told reporters that the assaulted police personnel claimed that they were attacked after one of the advocates identified head constable Basavaraju as one of the policemen who indulged in violence against the lawyers during March 2 incident.
In their complaint, Basavaraju and constable Roopa had alleged that they were assaulted by a group of 15 people. But, police had identified six so far.
