To create awareness among eligible citizens for inclusion of their names in the voters’ list, the Chief Electoral Officer in Bangalore has roped in Kannada film celebrities for the month-long revision exercise.
Puneeth Rajkumar, Ramesh Arvind and Aindrita Ray will help inform the youth about how necessary it is to get their name included in the electoral rolls.
The Election Commission of India has taken up the exercise of revising the voters’ list from October 1 to October 31 in 178 Assembly constituencies.
It will be done in the rest of the constituencies later in the month.
Manoj R., Special Officer, Elections, Chief Electoral Office, Karnataka, said: “The messages of three film celebrities have been filmed and will be telecast.”
Plays, puppet shows
The district administrations have been instructed to implement publicity programmes in coordination with other departments such as Information, Kannada and Culture, Higher Education and Youth Services. These include staging street plays, and holding puppet and magic shows in rural areas, Mr. Manoj said.
Those eligible to cast their vote can file applications for inclusion, deletion, or correction of names in the voters’ list, in offices of local bodies, city corporations or municipal bodies, or voter facilitation centres till October 31.
The final voters’ list will be released on January 5, 2013.
