The Hindu Jan Jagruti Samiti and Sri Ram Sene have urged the State government to arrest writer S.K. Bhagavan for issuing controversial statements against Lord Rama at Davanagere recently.

Members of both of these organisations held a protest in front of Mini Vidhan Soudha here on Tuesday.

They said that Prof. Bhagavan was unnecessarily raking up Hindu religious issues with the sole intention of hurting the sentiments of the Hindus. Earlier, he spoke about burning the Bhagavad Geeta. Hurting the sentiments of any religious groups was against the provisions of the Constitution. But it was strange that the Congress government in the State has not yet taken action in this regard, they alleged.

Sene leader Pramod Mutalik and Samiti state convenor Guruprasad led the protest.
