The Sagar taluk unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has opposed the move to widen the stretch of National Highway 206 that passes through Sagar city to 45 metres on either side from the centre of the road.

A delegation of BJP activists comprising T.D. Megharaj, Chethanraj Kannur and Satish Babu have submitted a memorandum to Shivamogga MP B.S. Yeddyurappa in this regard in the city on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Megharaj said that, the property owners along the road would suffer huge losses if the road was widened to 45 metres on either side. The width of the road should be limited to 20 feet on either side from the centre. He alleged that the concerned officials were not providing proper information to the public on the width of the road that would be widened and the land that would be acquired for the purpose, he said.

Mr. Megharaj said that earlier, it was planned to construct a by-pass road to reduce the vehicular density in the limits of Sagar city. He pressed for commencement of the work of the construction of the by-pass road at the earliest.

Mr. Yeddyurappa told the BJP activists that he would discuss the issue with the officials of National Highway Authority at the earliest.
