January 17, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - BALLARI:

U.R. Rao, space scientist, has underlined the need for the government to accord top priority to developing science and technology for the economic development of the country.

He was inaugurating a regional science conference titled ‘Science and society’ organised by the Veerashaiva College and Karnataka Science and Technolgy Academy here on Friday. Around 500 delegates from the district and neighbouring districts are participating.

“It is a pity that the country had, for so long, neglected science and technology. The priority accorded to science and technology should have been given much earlier for our economic prosperity,” Prof. Rao said. Anil Lad, MLA, said that scientists had a pivotal role to play in finding solutions to the basic issues of our daily lives.
