‘Academic trying to create confusion’

March 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - HUBBALLI:

The Vishwa Lingayata Mahasabha has alleged that researcher M. Chidananda Murthy is trying to create confusion in the society by saying that ‘Veerashaiva’ and ‘Lingayata’ are the same.

National convener of the mahasabha, Prabhulinga Malgavjar said here on Sunday that Prof. Murthy had earlier written to the Union government saying that since ‘Veerashaiva’ sect was part of Hindu religion, there was no need for giving separate religion status to it. He was trying to cover up the fact that there were a lot of differences between Veerashaiva, which was based on ‘Veda’ and ‘Agama’ and Lingayata, which took birth after rejecting the Vedic system.
