Aadhaar cards can be issued to foreigners: officials

An Aadhaar card can be issued a person anyone residing in the country for more than six months continuous provided he/she submits one of the 18 identity cards listed and an address proof, officials Venkat Somachar, chief coordinator, Centre for e-governance, and B. Shwetha, technical assistant, has said.

There is no barrier in issuing Aadhaar cards to foreigners if they submit the necessary documents. This is irrespective of whether they have acquired citizenship in India or not, the officials said. K. Rameshwarappa, Senior Deputy Director of Food and Civil supplies Department has sought to know if foreigners can be given Aadhaar cards.

Of the 29,94,744 people in Mysuru district (based on the 2011 census), over 28,20,859 were given Aadhaar cards, covering 94.19 per cent so far.
