A scream that saved many lives

November 15, 2013 04:09 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:00 pm IST - HAVERI:

The presence of mind of a ten-year-old boy, Aftab, and timely intervention of a young software engineer, Prashant Pandey, saved many lives on Thursday.

The ten-year-old was jolted out of his sleep when the bus hit the median. He immediately woke his parents up and screamed that the bus was on fire. Aftab’s father broke a window pane and opened an escape route.

Prashant Pandey, who was seated behind the driver, tried unsuccessfully to open the emergency exit. He then broke a few window panes and helped several passengers jump out. Some others, after having got out, smashed windows from the outside to save trapped passengers.
