A ray of hope

March 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST

Sir, — Finally, the State government has taken a decision to cancel the agreement with Regional Airport Holding International (RAHI), the company which took up the airport project under the BOT scheme.

The construction work began on a spirited note and the airport was scheduled to be operational July 2012. But work has been stuck for three years. People have lost hope on its revival.

To everyone’s surprise, recently a high-level three-member team of officials from the Airports Authority of India and the Civil Aviation Ministry, along with senior officials of the Infrastructure Development Department of the State government, inspected the half-complete Gulbarga Airport.

This development brought cheer among people. Adding to this, the Chief Minister (in his Budget speech) has declared that the proposal to handover the development of Kalaburagi Airport to Airport Authority of India is under consideration.

We look forward to the early completion of the airport and its commissioning.

Probe into Ravi’s death

Sir, — Bowing to pressure from all quarters and on the advice of party chief Sonia Gandhi, the Congress government has decided to hand over the probe into IAS officer D.K. Ravi’s death to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

This should bring the curtains down on the political backlash that has threatened to rip the State on caste lines.

With protests refusing to die down and the atmosphere charged, the State government should provide adequate security to the kin of the deceased officer.

An impartial CBI probe will help crack the riddle on one of the most sensational deaths in recent times.

Help achievers

Sir,— In our country, a large number of persons, young and old, excel in acting, sports, athletics, literary activities and other fields. They have brought laurels to the country at the national and international levels. It is the moral responsibility of the State and Union governments to properly honour and help them.

They must provide them adequate financial assistance for an honourable living.
