Pressed for time and looking a quick bite? A bunch of start-ups are out to ensure you eat healthy even when you don’t have the time to cook. Their salads and other healthy alternatives have become a popular option with executives, sportspersons and college students.
Most of these start-ups take orders on a weekly or monthly basis and cater to a regular client base.
Customers can pick from a set menu or a salad every day, or sign up for a menu customised by their in-house nutritionist.
The choices range from a Mexican four-bean salad with red rice to a leafy salad with olives, feta, peppers and an orange, or a simple fruit bowl.
Aditya Rao, founder, Nuts over Salads, has a Masters in culinary arts and has worked in several fine dining restaurants. He says that the trend of eating healthy is catching up.
“When I started off eight months ago, I had a hard time getting clients, but we cater to 350 clients on an average every day,” he says. These start-ups try to ensure that their clients get a balanced healthy, tasty meal.
Esha Hegde, who runs Fit Dish Fetish, says they have a rotating menu of main courses, salads, healthy short eats, packaged trail mixes and healthy sauces. While some salads cost Rs. 50 – Rs. 150 per box, customised weekly menus are cost effective and cost anywhere between Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,000. The start-ups operate online and via social networking sites but are now looking at other options such as mobile applications to ensure a broader reach.
Customers say these services help them avoid unhealthy food. Pooja P., a marketing manager, says, “The food helps me watch my weight and also increases productivity at work, since it is filling and yet not too heavy.”
