A half-baked parking facility

When the Central Business District (CBD) in Mysuru is facing vehicle parking crisis, the half-constructed multi-level parking facility is standing testimony to ‘official’ laxity.

If the work on the parking facility, taken up around three years ago, had been completed by now, it would have eased parking woes. Vehicle users, especially those owning four-wheelers, think twice before driving to the CBD since parking space has become exceedingly uncertain.

The moot question is whether the parking facility will be completed now and bring relief to the residents and Dasara tourists. The blame game continues unabated, putting the taxpayers to sheer inconvenience.

Lying waste

Importantly, the project was planned on the Town Hall premises to cater to tourists visiting the palace and for shoppers visiting Sayyaji Rao Road and D. Devaraja Urs Road, so that they could park their vehicles without inconvenience. In the absence of caretakers, the half-constructed parking facility is now filled with filth, and rainwater has reportedly collected in its basement.

MCC Commissioner C.G. Betsurmath said, “Fresh efforts will be made to get the parking facility work done soon. The contractor will be told to complete the work by August 15.” The big question is whether it is possible for the contractor to get the work done in a month and half, when little was done in all these years to realise the much-delayed project.
