A daily bath is a luxury now

April 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - KALABURAGI:

A bath has become a luxury in villages of Kalaburagi district. Facing severe water shortage, residents of Melkunda (B) in Kalaburagi taluk take a bath once in 10 days.

“When there is not enough water even to drink and cook every day, how can we indulge in the luxury of a daily bath. If humidity is very high, we just take a piece of cloth and wet it in water and wipe our body,” said Mallinath S. Kollur, a village elder.

Villagers are supplied water once in two days for 10 minutes by the gram panchayat as the well has dried up. The plea of the villagers to the district authorities to supply water through tankers paid dividends on Saturday.

Mr. Kollur and another village elder, Ambarao Kalaburagi, said they have resorted to novel ways of recycling water used for bathing to clean their clothes and utensils also.

BJP MLA Dattatreya Patil Revoor, who represents the constituency, has also not visited the village to hear their grievances, the residents complained.
