A broom to ‘cleanse political field’

Even as a raging debate is on in Karnataka over litterateurs participating in the campaign, a noted literary and cultural personality is contesting from the Kolar Lok Sabha (Reserved) constituency. A playwright, lyricist, film and documentary script writer, Kotiganahalli Ramaiah is contesting on the Aam Aadmi Party ticket, hoping to cleanse the ‘polluted’ political field.

Mr. Ramaiah began his career as an employee with the postal department and later worked with a nationalised bank. After resigning from the bank, he got involved in cultural activities.

Mr. Ramaiah is a household name in the region for his poems calling for social transformation. He had won the best dialogue writer award for the film Gejjenada .

A recipient of the Rajyotsava Award, the Karnataka Sahitya Academy award and the Karnataka Nataka Academy award, he found the AAP the right platform to realise his dream of establishing a society based on equality. According to him, the AAP symbol, the broom, is not just a symbol. “It symbolises the tool to cleanse the political field which has been polluted by corrupt politicians with the corporate sector backing them,” he said.
