A boy’s letter, Rs. 30 and an impassioned plea

April 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - Kolar:

Imagine the look on a SSLC evaluator’s face when she reached out for yet another answer transcript at the evaluation centre in Kolar.

Out popped Rs. 30 and an impassioned letter by the student fervently appealing for 10 marks. “I will remain indebted to you,” he promised.

The boy, a student of a Government High School in Haveri district, who appeared for the recently held SSLC examination, not only sought pass marks but offered Rs.30 and attempted to emotionally blackmail the evaluators saying he would commit suicide if he is not given the required marks.

In his letter, he wrote that he had jaundice during the second semester of the course and that the teaching was not good at his school.

Poor family

He said he was from a poor family and had to work after school to support his family.

His last line, in bold, read that he would end his life if the requested marks were not given.
