One of the lorries that was set on fire in the attack by residents in Holalkere taluk of Chitradurga district on Sunday night.

Tension prevailed at Abbigere village in Holalkere taluk of Chitradurga district on Sunday night when residents of the village forcibly entered three stone crushing units to protest against blasting activities and damaged two lorries, a tractor and two generators. Two persons were injured in the incident.

The residents of Abbigere village had been protesting against blasting activities in the three units belonging to Hanumantappa, Subramani and JVC Crushers.

The residents alleged that owing to blasting activities, cracks had developed in their residential buildings and government property in the villages. They said that the authorities concerned had not taken any steps to stop blasting activities even after repeated appeals.

Irked by this negligent attitude, the residents of the village forcibly entered these three units on Sunday night and beat up two persons: Hanumantappa and Mahantesh. The injured have been admitted to government hospital at Holalkere.

The Holalkere police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. They arrested 12 persons involved in the attack and are investigating.
