Ticketless travellers booked

The Mysuru Division of the South Western Railway has intensified the drive against ticketless travellers and has booked nearly 100 cases. A release stated that those violating various sections of the Railways Act, 1989, such as smoking, footboard and roof top travelling, travelling in ladies compartments, occupying seats in coaches meant for physically challenged, and transportation of luggage, were also taken to task. The drive was launched on Thursday on the Mysuru-Chamarajanagar section. A contingent comprising 30 ticket checking staff and 60 Railway Protection Force Personnel, was led by the Divisional Commercial Manager D.P. Halappa and other officials. The Special Railway Magistrate was also associated with the drive.

During the check on Train No.56281 Chamarajnagar – Mysuru-Bangalore passenger train between Kadakola and Ashokpuram stations, a total of 127 persons were booked for violating law realizing a penalty of ₹20, 000.

As many as 24 offenders were imprisoned for not paying fines. In the concurrent checks in the day, a total of 92 cases were also booked – 52 for higher penalties and 40 for carrying un-booked luggage with penalty revenue being ₹21,765, said the release.

Atul Gupta, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru, has warned that such checks would be intensified in the days to come and ticketless travellers and those violating rules will be dealt with severely.
