Khushboo Goel Chowdhary, Deputy Commissioner, Yadgir, has directed officials of the concerned government departments to tackle drought effectively and asked them to ensure that drinking water is supplied continuously and fodder is stocked adequately to meet people’s demands.
She was chairing a meeting on the drought situation in Yadgir recently.
Ms. Chowdhary said that with an aim to provide drinking water to rural areas, the government has sanctioned 1,151 projects under National Rural Drinking Water Project. She said that all the projects had already commenced and officials had to complete 158 by the end of March. Also, 134 projects, under LPCD, would be completed by the end of April.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed the officials concerned to supply tank water to villages facing acute drinking water shortage. If there are any complaints from the people, action will be initiated, she warned the officials. She took the stock of the drinking water situation in Surpur, Shahapur and Yadgir taluks and called a preliminary meeting with the officials of taluk and gram panchayats, Panchayat Development Officers, elected representatives and other officials of related departments to review the situation. In Surpur, the meeting would be held on February 13, in Shahapur, on February 14, and in Yadgir on February 15.
The DC asked the officials of Animal Husbandry Department to ensure that three fodder banks were established in each taluk of the district that stocked 100 metric ton of fodder for 15 days. She added that there was no need to establish fodder banks but supply fodder if there was a demand.
