The three-day Swachh Sarvekshan or cleanliness survey of the city under the Swachh Bharat mission concluded on Friday and these findings will have a final bearing on the city’s overall ranking of the clean cities. The challenge before Mysuru is to retain the “'Cleanest City'” tag for the third consecutive time.

A team from the Quality Council of India (QCI), which was camping here since three days, completed their appraisal and visited as many as 30 places and have uploaded photographs from the sites besides inspecting and verifying the documents with the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC).

The survey is being held across India in which 500 cities and towns with a population of over 1 lakh are in race for the “Cleanest City” tag besides rankings unlike 78 cities with a population of 10 lakh and above that were ranked last year. Mayor M.J. Ravi said councillors and the Mysuru City Corporation staff have worked hard since the last few weeks besides ensuring that the city remained clean throughout the year. “We are confident that our hard work will bear positive results this year as well,” said the Mayor .

The Mayor said their documents, including future plan of action, was in order and are confident of securing the maximum marks under it and are now banking on the citizens feedback. The score for citizens feedback has been increased to 450 from 300 last year. MCC’s response for redressing the citizens’ grievances will receive 45 per cent weightage of the total score of 2,000, 30 per cent is for citizens’ feedback and 25 per cent to the QCI observations. Senior officials of the MCC told The Hindu that the QCI team visited 30 places in the city, including community toilets, slums and residential areas besides places of worship. They covered most places of the city including tourist spots, bulk generator of garbage etc and photographs were uploaded from the spot. The documents submitted by the MCC were verified and their remarks entered, the covers sealed and dispatched to Delhi.
