The parents of Soujanya, the second year pre-university student who was raped and murdered near Dharmastala on October 10, 2012, are hoping that Central Bureau of Investigation will carry out a better re-investigation of the case.
Pointing out several flaws in the first investigation of the case, the 51st Bengaluru Additional District Sessions Court (a CBI Court) had on February 7 directed the Central agency to re-investigate the case and submit a report on the same by April 24.
‘Not questioned’
On Tuesday, Soujanya’s father Chandappa Gowda said among the flaws he had pointed out was the failure of CBI to examine Dheeraj Jain, Mallik Jain and Uday Jain, residents of Dharmastala. Mr. Gowda said the CBI did not question Mallik Jain and Ashrith Jain, who had been caught few hours after the murder, and the mentally unsound Santhosh Rao, who was now the lone arrested by the Belthangady police in the case. The CBI failed to examine the lone witness who had seen Mallik Jain, Dheeraj Jain and Uday Jain near the spot where Soujanya’s body was found. It had not looked into deaths of Ravi Poojary and Gopala Krishna, who were witnesses to the murder.
Shoddy job
Mr. Gowda alleged that the CBI did a shoddy investigation after receiving the case from the CID and pointed this out to the court during the trial. “We hope the CBI does a better job this time,” he said and reiterated that more than one person was involved.
