Six suffer burns at ECPL unit near Toranagal

A hot oil barrel burst at the Epsilon Carbon Private Limited unit

Six persons suffered burns after a hot oil barrel burst at a unit of Epsilon Carbon Private Limited (ECPL) near Toranagal in Sandur taluk of Ballari district on Sunday.

According to preliminary information, five of the six injured persons have suffered more than 50 per cent burns and they have been airlifted to St. John’s Hospital in Bengaluru for medical treatment.

One of the injured persons is undergoing treatment at the Sanjeevini Hospital at Toranagal.

This incident has come at time when locals have been protesting against ECPL’s coal tar plant.

The locals are opposing operation of this plant on the ground that it was destroying the environment and ecology of the region and also threatening public health.

Kuditini Police have rushed to the spot. Further details are awaited.
