Following the recent attack on junior doctors in Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), security has been tightened in the institute. The junior doctors of the institute also had demanded proper security for them while they were on duty.
The institute had deployed two security guards at the entrance to emergency section.
The guards at the place have been told not to allow more than one person along with the patient. Besides this, the police outpost, which was earlier located in a remote corner has been relocated to a place near the emergency care section.
K. Shankar, Medical Superintendent of HIMS, told The Hindu , “We have taken measures to tighten security. Entry of people into the emergency section has been restricted. We have put railings to avoid entry of public.”
Further, he added that 126 staff nurses had been appointed for the institute. They would report to duty soon. “Once the staff strength is improved we can provide better service for the public”, he added.
Recently junior doctors were attacked by relatives of a patient in the institute. The institute had filed a complaint with the police, following which five people were arrested. The arrested are out on bail.
