Polling for the 106 seats of 10 Agriculture Produce Marketing Committees in the district will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday. All preparations have been done and prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Cr.P.C. have been clamped in a radius of 100 metres of polling stations.
Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram said here on Wednesday that holiday had been declared for all such school and colleges on Thursday where polling stations had been set up.
Police Commissioner T.G. Krishna Bhat and Superintendent of Police B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda said adequate bandobust arrangements had been made, which included mobile parties to ensure peace and harmony during polling.
Elected unopposed
Mr. Jayaram said there were 140 constituencies under 10 APMCs in the district. As 28 candidates have been already elected unopposed and no nominations received for six places, polling would be conducted for 106 constituencies.
•10 APMCs viz., Athani, Bailhongal, Belagavi, Chikkodi, Gokak, Hukkeri, Khanapur, Raibag, Ramdurg and Savadatti in the district.
•Total seats-140; Elected unopposed-28; No nominations filed-6; Polling for 106 seats on Thursday.
•Re-polling if necessary on January 13 (Friday).
•Counting of ballot papers at schools/colleges at respective taluk centres on January 14 (Saturday).
•Voters having multiple registrations in four different types of constituencies are eligible to cast their votes in each of them. Accordingly, the indelible ink would be applied to middle finger in respect of an ‘agriculturist’, forefinger for ‘trader’, ring finger for member of ‘Marketing Cooperative Society’ and thumb for member of ‘Agriculture Cooperative Processing Society’.
