Polling for the 106 seats of 10 Agriculture Produce Marketing Committees in the district commenced as per schedule at 8 a.m. on Thursday, but on a slow pace thanks to the morning cold breeze.
According to Deputy Commissioner Jayaram, poll was being conducted for 106 of the 140 constituencies under 10 APMCs in the district. As many as 28 candidates were already elected unopposed and no nominations was received for 6 places.
Police have made adequate bandobast and prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Cr.P.C. have been clamped in a radius of 100 meters of polling stations to ensure free and fair polling.
He said voters having multiple registrations were eligible to cast their vote for each of the four categories. Accordingly, the indelible ink would be applied to middle finger in respect of an ‘agriculturist,’ fore finger for ‘trader,’ ring finger for member of ‘Marketing Co-operative Society’ and thumb for member of ‘Agriculture Co-operative Processing Society.’
