In yet another incident of “moral policing,” a right-wing group created ruckus over the presence of three students in the house of their classmate belonging to another religion.
The incident occurred in Kadaba, near Puttur in Karnataka.
Police said three girls from a Mysuru engineering college had come on holiday to Mangaluru. They had been staying with their classmate since Sunday. Their classmate’s father, Mohammed, is a moulvi. All four were to leave for Mysuru on Wednesday.
On Tuesday night, right-wing activists reached Mr. Mohammed’s home and started questioning him. A few Muslim youth came to the spot to counter them.
Prompt action
A constable, who saw the groups, suspected trouble and alerted the Kadaba police station. A Sub-Inspector came to the spot and moved the three girls to a safe area. The police then made arrangements to send the girls to Mysuru. SP Bhushan Borase appreciated the prompt action by the police constable.
