Online portal to bridge gap between police and citizenry

January 17, 2017 12:02 am | Updated 12:02 am IST - Bengaluru:

The next time you are going out of station, you need not fret about leaving your house locked for days. The State police have come up with a simple solution: enter details of your house and period of keeping it locked in a newly launched portal ‘policeseva’, so that the local beat police can keep extra vigil.

The website (policeseva.ksp.gov.in), launched as part of the citizen-centric initiatives of the State police under the Centrally-sponsored Crime Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS) project, hosts several other such citizen services such as lodging complaints online, reporting on lost phone and documents, and security to senior citizens. Senior citizens living alone too can seek the police’s help simply by registering themselves online.

For the first time, ‘Citizen Tip’, a formal way of tipping off the police has also been introduced. “This is a time of crowd sourced intelligence, where the old methods of intelligence are proving to be short. This is a tested way of crowd sourcing tips followed across various global cities,” a senior official said.

“With an aim to bridge the gap between policing and citizenry, we have launched the new portal where a host of new innovative policing services will be provided just a click away,” said Om Prakash, DG&IGP, Karnataka, on Monday.
