MP takes BSNL officers to task for delay in work

February 16, 2017 01:13 am | Updated 01:13 am IST - Bidar:

MP Bhagwant Khuba reprimanded Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited officials for lethargy in providing service and delay in implementing works, at a meeting of the Telecom Advisory Committee in Bidar on Wednesday.

He pointed out that the pace of work was slow and the quality of signal reception was very low. “I have seen that officers have not repaired broken cables even after 12 years. You waste two years in calling for tenders. You have not completed laying cables under the rail sleepers. Such callous attitude is unacceptable,” he said.

BSNL has good infrastructure and offers far better employee benefits compared to private operators. But why is it not performing better than others? he asked.

He asked officials to expedite work in coordination with the district administration and other Union government departments. He warned officials that action will be taken if they did not offer quality services to customers.

He asked them to work hard to achieve Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of providing broadband connectivity to all 186 gram panchayats under the Digital India Scheme.

Member Sangamesh Nasigar complained that network connectivity was poor and that there were call drops in many areas in the district. He said that there was virtually no connectivity in several border villages.

Telecom District Manager and TAC member-secretary M.K. Vagger said that they had sought permission from the head office to erect more mobile towers in Bidar city and other towns.
