Lukewarm response to KGF bandh call

A bandh call given by ‘Save KGF Forum’ evoked lukewarm response in Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) on Monday. The bandh was to oppose the setting up of a garbage disposal unit at Marikuppam in KGF.

The bandh call had triggered controversy between Congress and BJP with the former opposing the agitation and the latter supporting it. Though shops were closed for some time, they resumed normal activities later.

While a group of people led by BJP leader and former MLA Y. Sampangi raised slogans seeking support for the bandh, Congress functionaries urged traders not to support it as there was no proposal to set up the unit purportedly mooted by Karnataka Compost Development Corporation.

Vehicles including KSRTC and private buses operated as usual and the work of Bharat Earth Movers Ltd. (BEML) was not affected.

Though the bandh call was given in the name of Save KGF Forum and pamphlets were distributed in its name, there was no mention of any office-bearers of it.

“We have initiated investigation to identify those who issued the pamphlets”, KGF Superintendent of Police B.S. Lokeshkumar told The Hindu .
