Lecturers told to complete mandatory B.Ed course

As any as 736 lecturers in government and aided PU colleges across the State have been asked to complete the mandatory Bachelors in Education course.

A notification issued by the State government states that 736 PU lecturers, appointed in 2013, were supposed to complete B.Ed course in four years time. “Although these were the clear instructions, many of the lecturers still have not enrolled for B.Ed course. So we have asked for an extension for admissions in the B.Ed course and all these 736 lecturers are supposed to register themselves and give their admission details to the department,” an official from the Department of Pre-University Education said. Having a B.Ed degree is a must according to the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The B.Ed course from the 2016-2017 academic year has been made a two year course. The lecturers will be given stipend and leave to complete the courses, sources pointed out.
