High Court grants bail to Jayachandra

January 11, 2017 12:30 am | Updated 12:30 am IST - Bengaluru:

The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday granted bail, with effect from February 2, to S.C. Jayachandra, suspended chief project officer of the State Highway Development Project, in a corruption case registered against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation related to illegal exchange of new currency.

Justice Rathnakala passed the order while disposing of the petition filed by Mr. Jayachandra, who was denied bail by the special court for CBI cases. The bail was granted with post-dated effect after the CBI counsel said that the investigating agency had taken him into its custody only for five days as against the 15-day period of police custody permitted in law, and the remaining period was yet to be claimed depending upon the need of the investigation.
