Family of alleged rape victim ‘threatened’

February 08, 2017 11:50 pm | Updated 11:50 pm IST - Tumakuru:

The family of the mentally challenged woman who was allegedly raped in a moving vehicle by an assistant sub-inspector, Umesh, in Tumakuru has approached the police saying that they have been threatened by an unknown man.

They told the police that on February 6, a man entered their house and asked them to withdraw the case, failing which the ASI would take revenge on them once he was out of jail.

“A case has been registered and we are on the lookout for the person who threatened the family,” said Additional Superintendent of Police Manjunath.

The assistant SI, who was on his night rounds in a private vehicle on January 14, had told the woman that he would drop her home. But he then allegedly raped her.

Police protection has been provided for the family.
