Two persons of Balehonnur in Koppa taluk have alleged that they were arrested and tortured by the police recently.

The duo, Suraksha and Jagadeesha, have alleged that the police tortured them through the night of February 12. While Suraksha suffered injuries to his leg, Jagadeesha had injuries on his face. According to them, the police picked them up at night and tortured them till the morning. Both were produced before a judicial magistrate the next day on the charge of creating nuisance in public. Now they are out on bail and undergoing treatment at a hospital in Koppa.

When The Hindu contacted Superintendent of Police K. Annamalai, the officer said the two were drunk and were causing nuisance in the middle of the road. “They were drunk on the day and misbehaved with the police officer in an inebriated mood. Now they are making allegations. We are registering a complaint based on the statement and [will] take further action,” he said.
