Dacoits assaulted a farm woman in Ballur in Aurad taluk on Monday night.

Nagamma Mallahsettappa Udgire (70) was alone at home as her husband had left for the farm to watch over the standing crop. Her son, who is a lecturer in Bidar, was in Bengaluru for some work.

The dacoits assaulted the woman and fled with gold jewellery weighing around 40 grams, as per initial estimates, a senior police officer said. Passers-by noticed the door open and found the woman unconscious. They informed the neighbours who then called the police.

The woman suffered injuries near the eye and on her fingers. She has been brought to the district hospital. Doctors said that she remained unconscious for a few hours. She is still in shock, unable to speak clearly, said a doctor.

Superintendent of Police Prakash Nikam and Additional Superintendent of Police Srihari Babu met the woman. The district canine squad was rushed to the village.
