The closure of a stretch of Bengaluru-Nilgiri (B.N.) Road between Hardinge Circle and Gun House Circle in the city for road works has led to traffic chaos around K.R. Circle.
Though the stretch of B.N. Road was closed from Saturday, Monday saw vehicles approaching from two roads piling up at K.R. Circle.
Traffic snarls were witnessed between Chamaraja Circle and KR Circle on Albert Victor Road as well as on the stretch of Sayyaji Rao Road between the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) building and K.R. Circle.
A large number of motorists, using B.N. Road after reaching Hardinge Circle, were forced to ply on Albert Victor Road because of the closure of the B.N. Road stretch. The increased traffic flow led to a traffic jam between Chamaraja Circle and K.R. Circle. Similiarly, motorists, who used the B.N. Road after reaching Gun House Circle, had hit the Sayyaji Rao Road only to be caught in the jam at K.R. Circle.
The entry and exit of buses from the city bus stand on Albert Victor Road and Sayyaji Rao Road gates only compounded the chaos.
With vehicles choking K.R. Circle, harried motorists, who were caught in traffic jam, were seen taking a deviation at Chamaraja Circle towards Ashoka Road and towards Jaganmohan Palace on Sayyaji Rao Road.
Devaraja Traffic Inspector Sandesh Kumar said the traffic police was planning to allow the exit of city buses headed towards N.R. Mohalla, Rajiv Nagar, Siddhartha Layout and Alanahalli from Albert Victor Road exit so that the buses taking a U-turn at K.R. Circle could proceed towards Hardinge Circle.
Similiarly, separate arrangements were being made for the arrival and departure of buses headed towards J.P. Nagar and surrounding areas. “The traffic police will implement these and some other measures to ease the traffic flow near K.R. Circle,” he said.
Meanwhile, the stretch of B.N. Road between Hardinge Circle and Gun House Circle will remain closed for the next two months for the laying of a concrete top and building of a median on it.
