Activists of district unit of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) staged a protest in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday demanding arrest of ten people who allegedly gang raped an anganwadi worker in Bidar district.

The protesters also demanded suspension of the investigation officer Mallamma Chowbe for alleged dereliction of duty in the case.

The gang rape, which took place on December 26 last year, is a blot on the civil society, the protesters said. All the ten accused should be arrested immediately and they be given exemplary punishment, they urged.

The investigation officer’s approach towards the victim was highly reprehensible and an efficient officer should be appointed in her place, the organisation demanded.

CITU district unit honorary president Gandhinagar Narayanaswamy, president G. Arjunan, general secretary B.S. Nagarathna, secretary M. Vijaykrishna, AIDWA state president V. Geetha participated in the protest among others.

A memorandum was submitted to the government in support of the demand.
