The State government has ordered a probe by the Criminal Investigation Department into the alleged murder of two Janata Dal (Secular) workers at Thoppanahalli village in Maddur taluk of Mandya district on December 25.

On Sunday evening, two JD(S) workers — Nandish (25) and Muthuraj (48) — were stabbed to death and three others were injured following a clash between two groups over water. Five people were arrested in connection with the incident on Monday.

Sources said there was a running feud between two groups over drinking water in the village.

With tension in the village building up after the incident, Home Minister G. Parameshwara has ordered a CID probe.
