The Station Bazar branch of the State Bank of Hyderabad in Kalaburagi was destroyed in a fire that broke out on Monday night. No casualties were reported.

Furniture, computers and counters of the bank were destroyed. However, the records room and locker room were safe. The loss has not been estimated so far. Short-circuit is suspected to be the cause.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at around 9.30 p.m. generating a ball of fire tens of metres high. Fire and Rescue Services personnel put out the fire after an hour-long battle.

The police resorted to a mild lathi charge to disperse persons who blocked the main road connecting District Court to Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Circle.
