After a long delay, the State government has announced the seat matrix for engineering courses, though the matrix for undergraduate medical courses is still pending. There are 96,460 seats in 212 engineering colleges, including 12 evening colleges, Higher Education Minister R.V. Deshpande told a press conference here on Monday.
Of these, 26,925 seats are under the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) quota and 23,088 under management quota. There are 4,823 seats under the five per cent supernumerary quota, the Minister said.
Architecture seats
As for the seats available in the 19 architecture colleges in the State, Mr. Deshpande said that there are 1,360 seats, of which 590 are for Common Entrance Test (CET) rank-holders, 396 for COMEDK, and 26 seats under the five per cent quota for students admitted under lateral entry scheme. There are 340 seas under the management quota.
MBA
As for Master of Business Administration (MBA) courses in 236 institutions, he said that there were 12,375 seats available under the 50 per cent government quota (the other 50 per cent is management quota), while there are 24,000 seats in all.
Adding that the government-quota admissions will be determined based on the scores of the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) conducted by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), he said that last year, 6,150 seats were vacant due to the seats surrendered by the management.
“All colleges will open by September 10,” Mr. Deshpande said and added that the admission process will be completed by August 31.
