80-year-old trampled to death by tusker

An elderly woman was trampled to death by a wild tusker near Kodlipete village in Shanivarasanthe range of Kodagu district on Tuesday. Jayamma (80), was standing near an open well when she was attacked. Deputy Conservator of Forests Manoj Kumar said the lone tusker had come in search of water. Forest officials issued a cheque for Rs. 1 lakh to the bereaved family.

Elephant herd spotted

Meanwhile, a herd of eight elephants strayed out of Nagarahole near Kachvanahalli in Hunsur taluk on Tuesday.

However, there was no conflict situation as the herd entered Doddakere lake on the outskirts of the village. The authorities deployed Balarama and Gopalswamy to chase the herd back into the jungles.
