7,000 litres of liquor destroyed

Officials of the Excise Department, on Tuesday, destroyed 7,000 litres of expired liquor at Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Ltd. (KSBCL) godown.

The officials from Mandya and Mysuru visited the godown at Induvalu on the Bengaluru–Mysuru highway to check documents pertaining to the stocks.

“During inspection, we found 7,000 litres of expired whisky, rum, scotch, and vodka. Later, we destroyed them,” a senior officer of the department told The Hindu .

The district has 103 wine stores, two clubs, 16 boarding and lodgings, 87 bar and restaurants, 1 KSBCL liquor shop, 15 Mysore Sales International Ltd. outlets, 1 Tourism Department-run Beer Parlour [at KRS] and 2 Tourism Department-operated liquor shops [at KRS and Bheemeshwari Fishing Camp], the officer said.

The liquor outlets in the district have sold 17.53 lakh boxes of Indian-made liquor and beer during 2014–15.

The department plans to launch a drive against the sale of expired liquor in Mandya. “We will conduct surprise raids,” a senior officer said.

The officer requested the public to check the date of expiry before buying alcohol.
