At least 70 sheep were killed when the speeding Shatabdi Express ploughed into the herd near Chamanahalli Cross, near Maddur Railway Station, in the district on Thursday afternoon. According to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) sources, there was no damage to the train and hence it did not halt at the spot.

Some farmers from Pandavapura taluk were near the track with their animal herd when the incident took place. The train, heading to Bengaluru, hit the animals when approaching the Maddur station. Railway, Revenue and Police officials inspected the spot and interacted with the sheep rearers. Further investigation is on.
