7 doctors sentenced

A magisterial court in Pune has sentenced seven doctors from the city’s Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital to a one-year jail term for procedural lapses over compliance with the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act 1994.

Three among those sentenced were senior hospital staff, including the medical superintendent, medical director and chief operating officer, while the rest are radiologists. They were sentenced to one year’s simple imprisonment and slapped a Rs. 5000 fine by a Judicial First Class Magistrate court here.
