A total of 61,097 seats were allotted in the mock allotment round on Monday of a total 65,288 seats available for Common Entrance Test (CET) rank holders in medical, engineering, architecture and farm courses, Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) officials said.
The results of the dummy allotment made available to the candidates on the KEA website precedes the real allotment in the first round of counselling which takes place on July 10.
The students were made to wait for at least five hours to view their results on the website though the KEA had initially said that it would be announced at 10 am.
Of the total 1.39 lakh students who applied for the CET, 1.37 lakh took the test. As many as 91,808 qualified, while only 71,803 students verified their documents. Of these, only 70,676 registered on the KEA portal and 69,531 actually entered options which totalled up to 47.07 lakh.
KEA officials said that they, along with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) officials, saw a surge of options entered as the time for the option entry to close neared. The figure at 11 p.m. on Sunday — 47.07 lakh — was a jump from the 45.77 lakh options entered by 7 p.m. At the end of the option entry, 4.94 lakh options were entered in the medical stream, 40.06 lakh options were entered in engineering, 1.96 lakh in agriculture, and 10,192 in architecture.
According to KEA officials, subjects that are in demand in the engineering stream are telecommunications, mechanical, electronics and communications, computer science and electronics and electrical. There were 16 rounds of computerised seat allotment after 11 p.m., which was done based on the rank and category of the students and the availability of seats in the colleges, they added.
What next?
The dummy allotment informs students of what seats they are likely to get allotted in the final round. However, students have been given time till 5 p.m. on Tuesday to add, revise or delete options entered by them before a final round of computerised allotment is made, which will be displayed at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
Students who are happy with the seats allotted to them in the first round can pay the fees and report to the colleges from July 10 to 15.
The seats that remain (if students don’t report to the college and to the KEA before July 15, the seat will lapse) will go to the second round of counselling, which commences on July 23. Students have time from July 17 to 22 to enter their options again.
