The consumption of contaminated water has reportedly resulted in the outbreak of gastroenteritis in Uraganahalli village of Sorab taluk.
As many as 55 persons in the village have been treated for diarrhea and vomiting in the past three days.
Satish, Taluk Health Officer, told The Hindu that 10 persons were treated as in-patients at the government general hospital in Sorab taluk and were discharged on Wednesday.
He said that 40 persons were still receiving treatment as out-patients and their health condition was stable.
He said that the drinking water pipeline of the village had been damaged and it appeared that the water got contaminated.
Water samples have been sent to laboratory for investigation. The local gram panchayat also commenced repairing the pipeline on Thursday, he said.
Following the outbreak, the officials of Department of Health and Family Welfare, accompanied by anganwadi workers and accredited social health activists, have urged people to consume pure drinking water.
A team of medical experts, comprising doctors and nurses, are camping in the village.
Ample stock of medicines to treat gastroenteritis has been maintained at the government general hospital in Sorab town, he added.
