A 50-year-old farmer lost his life after being trampled by a tusker at Jolamaaranahalli in Tumakuru district.
Rangaswamaiah from Jolamaaranahalli was going to his farm on Monday night when the tusker pushed him with its trunk before trampling on him. He was rushed to Tumakuru district government hospital.
As the injuries were of a serious nature, doctors advised shifting him to Victoria hospital in Bengaluru. But he died on the way to Bengaluru in the early hours of Tuesday.
Dr. Eshwaraiah, surgeon of Tumakuru district hospital, told The Hindu that all of Rangaswamaiah’s internal organs were seriously injured. The liver was damaged and ribs and bones were fractured. N.V. Amaranath, Deputy Conservator of Forests, told The Hindu that ‘compensation of Rs. 5 lakh would be given to the victim’s wife, Gangamma’.
A cheque of Rs. 2 lakh will be handed over to Gangamma on Tuesday, he added. Three tuskers had entered the district five days ago from Adrangi forest in Nelamangala taluk of Bengaluru Rural district. On Monday night, they were in Mallasandra tank. On Tuesday, they were in Adagur plantation in Gubbi taluk. Mr. Amaranath said officials would drive the tuskers back to the forest.
