50.71 per cent voter turnout in Mandya

Elections to the Legislative Council for the South Graduates’ constituency went peacefully at 34 polling stations across the district on Thursday.

According to sources, 50.71 per cent voters of the total electorate of 31,769 exercised their franchise.

Polling started on a low-key affair. However, it picked up pace by 1 p.m. The percentage of voting was 32 at 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, political activists campaigned near the polling stations and made last-minute efforts to lure voters.

From early morning, the former Minister and Mandya District Congress Committee president M.S. Athmananda, the former MLA and Janata Dal (Secular) leader M. Srinivas, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader B. Shivalingaiah and supporters were seen near polling stations to campaign.
