Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa on Monday assured the Legislative Assembly of taking a call on requests by the legislators for formation of new taluks at the appropriate time.
Replying to Bharatiya Janata Party member Appachhu Ranjan during Question Hour, the Minister said as of now the government was working towards setting up 50 new taluks by January as per its earlier announcements.
“We are now in the process of channelising funds and administrative efforts to set up 50 new taluks. The decision on the request for new taluks beyond those in the list would be taken at an appropriate time,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the State has a total of 69,39,861 people who do not have houses, according to the government. Replying to Bharatiya Janata Party member C. T. Ravi, Major Irrigation Minister M. B. Patil, on behalf of Housing Minister M. Krishnappa, said this included 39.07 lakh persons from the rural areas and 30.32 lakh persons from urban areas. The houseless meant those who did not have shelter, those living in rented houses and huts, he said.
