49.73 lakh children have Aadhaar card

Earlier in October, the Education Department asked all schools to furnish details of students who already had an Aadhaar card. The department statistics state that of a total of one crore students from class one to 10, 49.73 lakh students have Aadhaar cards, and the details of 42.64 lakh students have been furnished.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development had urged the State governments to explore the possibility of using the Aadhaar as a proxy roll number for students appearing in examinations.
